Education of young people is highly prioritized in many countries. However, educating adults who cannot write or read is even more important and governments should spend more money on this. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 26 March, 2022 Morning

No doubt, provision of quality education is a need of the time and higher authorities always remain concerned about the same. However, the education of grown-ups’ is generally a neglected domain. In my personal opinion, necessary actions must be taken to facilitate the learning of adults and the arguments supporting my view point shall be discussed in the subsequent paragraphs.

To begin, adult education is necessary in terms of improving the chances of survival of unfortunates in this digital age. The fact is that due to illiteracy these people could not understand or make use of technology. These people remain deprived of various opportunities the technology has created today. For example, people with the skills of wood or marble carving can directly sell their work of art online through various platforms, but in the absence of required knowledge their earning remained confined to the minimal. Eventually, the gap between rich and poor is widening further.

In addition, illiteracy of adults is a huge threat to the society in many ways. Parents who are not educated themselves cannot assist their children in their education in any way and fail to keep an eye on their academic progress. At the same time, it is also a reason behind the polarization of society which is creating a huge divide. For instance, in modern families, young children who are digital natives do not enjoy the company of grandparents who due to illiteracy could not share common interest with them such as surfing internet or playing computer games.

To conclude, I would like to assert that every individual has a role to play in nation building and illiterate adults should not left behind. Thus, government need to give equal priority to the edification of adults as of younger age group.
